Danny Jackson is a Navajo silversmith from Chinle, Arizona. He comes from a long line of silversmiths, dating back to the 1800’s. His brothers, Tommy and Gene Jackson, are well-known silversmiths whose jewelry are featured at the store. As a child Danny worked with his family to help perfect the pieces, and from the age of six he was already making plain silver rings and some with bezels and stones. He started working on his own in 1994, and has been at it ever since.
He usually works in what is known as the ‘shadowbox’ style, and often creates pendants in a turtle design. “Desert turtles are known for good luck and long life - this is a universal belief in all tribal cultures - and they’re rare to see,” he says. He also currently makes gradient sterling bead necklaces, in addition to rings and earrings.
A branching coral species found in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Coral is the most valuable of all precious corals – as it has been since antiquity. Because of its durable nature and intense color – ranging from stunning blood red to pinkish orange – it is a favorite among jewelry makers the world over. Like Turquoise, Red Coral is believed by many to have symbolic significance, from increasing confidence and courage, to improving fertility in women and protecting from the evil eye.
