Roberto Ugalde hails from Rio Blanco, a quaint village situated in the state of Queretaro, Mexico. Nestled within the Sierra Madre mountain range, his upbringing was enriched by majestic landscapes, flowing rivers, and a rich diversity of wildlife. This enchanting environment fostered his deep appreciation for nature and ignited his creative abilities.

His primary focus is on aspen trees, particularly the interplay of light as it filters through their leaves and trunks. A friend once remarked, echoing the sentiments of Mary Oliver, that Ugalde possesses an extraordinary talent for portraying these trees, stating, “Roberto has an exceptional ability to depict the trees as they transform into pillars of light. At times, it astounds me, as the way light permeates his artwork makes me feel as though I am standing within a photograph of an aspen grove.”

Ugalde's artistic approach is inspired by the techniques of Jackson Pollock, employing methods of dripping, throwing, and applying industrial oil-based paint with a palette knife on a horizontal surface atop a spinning table. After the paint dries, he refines the colors and details, infusing his work with vitality and luminosity. Ugalde expresses, “Whenever I observe my surroundings, I am struck by the beauty of a world filled with colors and shapes, and my instinct is to translate my vision and emotions in a manner that connects and reconnects individuals with nature.”
