Roberto Ugalde is an adept oil painter who expresses the essence of his subjects in a way that draws the viewer into the painting. He masters the use of oils in an impressionistic manner, which breathes life into his landscapes and figures.
Roberto was born in Rio Blanco (White River), a small village in the state of Queretaro, Mexico. Located in the Sierra Madre mountain range, he grew up surrounded by peaked vistas, flowing rivers, and abundant wildlife. He loved to draw and paint since he was a young boy; his love for art guided him to study at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) in Queretaro Mexico. He was classically trained with the old master's technique.
Roberto's art breaks up stale preconceptions and banality. His paintings explode like the Big Bang, some from the center out, some in dense grids of trees. He opens inner or outer dimensions previously unexperienced before coming upon a piece of his work.
Ugalde’s art is inspired by Jackson Pollock’s technique of dropping, throwing, and splattering industrial oil-based paint with a pallet knife in a horizontal position over a wood panel on top of a spinning table. Once the paint is dry, he touches up the colors and features. As a result, he breathed life and light into his piece. Ugalde states, “Every time I look around me, I see this beautiful world full of colors and forms, and my first impulse is to transform my vision and emotions in a way that connects and reconnects people to nature.”
