Dyan Newton

Dyan currently lives in Abernathy, Texas, situated just north of Lubbock, alongside her husband of 19 years. With over 38 years of experience in painting, she has worked with various mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, pastels, and oils. Dyan has had the privilege of studying under both renowned local and national artists. Over the years, she has cultivated her own impressionistic style, characterized by dynamic brushwork and vibrant colors. Her passion for painting shines through in her depictions of landscapes, portraits, animals, and floral subjects.

Dyan draws inspiration from the beauty of a summer day and the innocence reflected in a child's expression. Her goal is to capture these moments in her artwork, conveying the same joy she experienced when first encountering the scene. Many admirers of her work appreciate the lively colors and the sense of "happiness" that her paintings exude.

As a signature member of both Artists of Texas and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, Dyan has received numerous accolades at both local and international levels. Her artwork is included in private and corporate collections across the United States and internationally. Additionally, she conducts classes and workshops throughout the year.

Dyan lives in Abernathy Texas, and has been painting for over forty years. Her favorite mediums are watercolors and acrylics. Throughout the years, after studying with many local and well-known artists, her art has evolved into an impressionistic style of painting, noticeably by her lively and intuitive brushstrokes and bright vivid colors. She strives to create lots of energy in her paintings, keeping them looking fresh and spontaneous.

She enjoys creating paintings from images she has taken of old mundane dwellings, quaint adobe villages and churches, and remote scenes that are fast fading away. She feels like she is bringing them “back to life," with her bold and complimentary colors. She also loves painting beautiful landscapes, colorful beach cottages, mountains, and florals.

Dyan has won numerous awards throughout her career, and her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the US and internationally. She has signature status in Artists of Texas and Western Federation of Watercolor Society. Dyan teaches art classes in her studio and workshops in Lubbock and throughout the United States.

Her work has been published in Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector, and was featured in the Lubbock Magazine 2018.

Her art is currently being represented by The Adobe Fine Art Gallery in Ruidoso, New Mexico and Broadway Contemporary Fine Art in Lubbock, Texas.

Dyan has been chosen to be the Featured Artist for the 2024 46th Annual Arts Festival, April 13-14.
