“I belong to a mysterious tribe whose members are all different and bonded in a way that most folks yearn to be. It’s the amulets, prayers, the spirit, smooth turquoise stones, and my mother’s perfume.”
Cynde Roof is an oil painter whose work is whimsical, and immediately recognizable for the striking color palette, unusual subjects in still life, and smooth, glass-like surfaces. She was first aware of her autonomy in the enchanting atmosphere of SouthEastern Alaska. As an only child, she spent endless hours walking in the fern-filled, mossy, shady black jack forest of half dusky days in her homeland. Light and shadows were her playmates in a wonderland of bubbling imagination and beauty. This childhood existence encouraged rich and splendiferous play and make-believe that has now been refined and matured.
Never forgotten, but carefully preserved forever away, these bejeweled halls of memory have served her well in the fashioning of her life as an artist. The self-taught artist brings forth the dark drama and mystique one can enjoy in her serene still life applications. “I am thankful to my creator for painting through me the beauty of what I see in my studio,” the devout artist states. Her students have traveled the world with her for numerous workshops ranging from the South of France, and far off castles in Italy- where the paint, explore, cook, go truffle hunting and taste delicious wines in the sun soaked vineyards of Europe.
She has taught at the college level, owned a private art studio, and traveled to the four corners of the world holding sought-after workshops and art retreats. Roof has exhibited her work at the Texas Tech Lubbock Museum Show “Winner” 2016 Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, and was selected for the Patrons Choice Award at Art on the Llano Estacado at the Museum of TTU in 2014 and 2015.
